Located in the middle of Frederick Street, Laygate, Maxwells DIY Shop is the largest independent retailer in the North East but they still have that small family firm feel about them when you visit their store and can give the big boys a run for their money. They stock a wide range of goods including power tools, flooring, bathroom fittings, kitchen tops, adhesives and sealants, tins of paint, new doors, stairs, gardening items, plumbing and many more items all under one roof. One of the things I find handy about this shop over the years is the fact that you can buy wood and boards etc and they will cut it to size for you which can save you a few hours work. You can park your car right up to their back doors for loading up which is ideal when you have large or heavy items to get back home.
