Smiths chippy or as we always call it Billy Smiths chippy is another traditional fish and chip shop with a long history in the town and has won some awards including the perfect portion award, based in Ocean road (they also have another takeaway in South Shields Fairground) they offer fresh cooked fish and chips which you must order as you enter and all other food items you expect to see in a traditional chippy, one of my favourites is to order a portion of fish and chips and a proper Geordie stottie cake (not one of these big buns that impersonate a true stottie) plus ask for a large helping of batter then its off down to the Marine park with my young son to feed us and the ducks.
