The funny thing is when I think of the Red Hut Chippy I always think of them as the new kid on the block when compared with the two other chippys in Ocean Road but when you look back they have been going for a lot longer than 20 years now as I can remember when the first started off selling their fish & chips from one of those little red kiosks that used to be situated at the end of Pier Parade opposite the old amusement arcade and quasar. In those days you used to get the day trippers standing in a huge queue waiting for their fish & chips, they built up a good reputation and following until the huts had past their sell by date and the council pulled them down, so instead of packing in they moved lock stock and barrel down to Ocean Road where they are still based today. The one thing that they offer different from the other chip shops is that cook their fish & chips in small pans not like your traditional chippys and this gives them their own unique taste, over the last few years they have expanded and have taken over the old newsagents shop that used to stand next door and changed it to a seating area which tend to be handy if the weather makes a change for the worse..
